Between Bridges is delighted to announce Prateek Vijan as the recipient of the ninth Between Bridges Residency, taking place from January to June 2027.

Prateek Vijan (*1991, New Delhi) lives and works in Berlin. He studied in New Delhi and Hamburg at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg and participated in the Berlin Program for Artists.

Vijan’s artistic practice takes his personal history as its point of departure, which he understands and reflects upon as a web of political, bureaucratic, and societal influences. In his recent sculptures, installations, and films, Vijan has examined the colonial property relations embedded in the collections and security infrastructures of Western museums, developing poetic counter-narratives that understand fiction as a form of world-making.

During his residency, Vijan plans to develop a new project that brings together his interest in the limitations of dominant Western languages, migration, and questions of the (in)translatability of affect and emotion through a sculptural and participatory form.

Prateek Vijan has received numerous scholarships and awards, including the Ars Viva Prize, Kunstfonds Stipendium, Working Grant for Visual Arts from the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Berenberg Culture Prize, and Travel Grant from Neue Kunst Hamburg.

His work has been exhibited primarily in Germany, most recently at Marta Herford, Kunstverein in Hamburg, Julia Stoschek Foundation Berlin, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen, Deichtorhallen Falckenberg Collection, Gallery Koshbakht in Cologne, and Produzenten Gallery in Hamburg. His video and sculptural works have been acquired by the Sammlung zeitgenössischer Kunst der Bundesrepublik Deutschland and the Hamburger Kunsthalle.
